Minutes of 2015 AGM and Club Closure
Dear Members
We held the AGM on Friday 13th February at The Green Dragon, Market Lavington. The Minutes can be found here. One member was present and we received three apologies from members so say they couldn't attend. Understandably, no one came forward to take any of the committee roles and it is with great sadness that we made the decision on the night to close the club, with the extraordinary meeting taking place after the AGM.
We decided, going forward, to continue with the training, as this has been the most popular of all our Springline events. Under the name of "Lavington Training Group", Ginette Peach has kindly offered to continue to arrange the training sessions with Liz Sayers on a regular basis. I will organise training at venues with other trainers for Show Jumping, Dressage and even Cross Country, if there are enough interest to make it worth while we will continue.
Lavington Training Group is a non-profit group. All sessions will be arranged outside of the remit of any British Riding Club rules, memberships and insurance. All trainers will have their own insurance and all horses attending are required to have 3rd party liability insurance.
If you would like to be part of the group, please send me an email to [email protected] and we will keep your details and inform you of training.
There is a Lavington Training Group Face Book page, please like our page and you will be kept informed of training and events. Please feel free to post information and any events and training that you know of. We hope this way, we can still support one another and enjoy all sorts of training, competitions and those Springline members that would like to remain in touch.
Please note:
The Springline Riding Club has now closed and this website is no longer in use.
Thank you all for your help support over the years and I hope we can all keep in touch.
Kind regards
Sarah

Henri (Chairman) and Kath (Treasurer) retired form the committee at the AGM on the 27th November. They both will be very much missed by us all and we would like to thank them for all their hard work over the years.
Message from your retired chairman....
I've had such a good couple of years as Chairman, working with a great committee, it has been fun to get to know more members, names have become faces! The meetings have been very happy and friendly and I hope you have enjoyed the various events we have organised. Please do support the club and try to help at one or two events each year. I will see some of you at our Christmas dinner next Tuesday, I'm sure The Bridge will do us proud. Happy Christmas, and as it says on my key ring, KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON RIDING!

Chris Tyrer has kindly written the follow piece giving us some background of the amazing Race Horse:
Vortex Perpetual Trophy
The 9th October 2013 saw the annual reunion of the Coriolis Partnership with their beloved Vortex, a very special day as they had travelled from either end of the country to present The Vortex Perpetual Trophy to the winner of Best in Show at the local Springline Riding Club for the very first time.
The trophy has been kindly donated by the Coriolis Partnership of Mr Chris Wilkinson and Patrick Ewing and Vortex’s loanee Mrs Chris Tyrer in recognition of the amazing racing career of Vortex, who raced around the world, in Dubai, America, Japan and Sweden as well as setting a course speed record for 7 furlongs at Lingfield (which still stands 8 years on!) and winning £335,000 in prize money. Also in recognition of the joy he gives to Chris in his present home where he has been since 17th December 2008.
Chris and Andrea Wilkinson, Patrick and Yvonne Ewing and Chris Tyrer all felt it would be a great legacy for Vortex to be remembered not only in racing circles but also in the local area where he retired as the amazing athlete that he is and the enjoyment he has brought to so many people throughout his racing life and beyond.
Chris and Patrick and Vortex were thrilled to present the trophy to the first winner Deanna Thorp, who won Best in Show .
Vortex thoroughly enjoyed his afternoon in the spotlight once again and the packets of polos went a long way to make it just GROOVY!!!!

Report on Dressage Training Session at Dawn Mayne's yard November 10th:
This turned out to be a lovely mild dry day, perfect for standing around, drinking cups of coffee and watching the horses being put through their paces on Dawn's lovely arena. Competitors warmed up then did their first test (BD INTRO A) for Rachel Hammond to judge. When completed, Rachel went through the results sheet with the rider and gave her targets for improvement. Each competitor then focused on these targets when they repeated their performance of the test. Everyone found the morning enjoyable and very instructive and those new to dressage have become fans.
Results: 1st Deanna Thorp on Phoenix
2nd Kath Shaw on Bea
3rd Elaine Greenaway on Finchairn Falcon
4th Dawn mayne on Dexter
5th Lucy Mayne* on Superted (*only 9 years old but showed great potential)
Deanna was also the most improved rider between tests so won a lovely box of chocolates. Our warmest thanks to Dawn and family for letting use use their facilities.

Excellent news from Rachel Hammond, our local dressage judge and trainer:

Just thought I'd send you the Larkhill results. I received a lovely rosetter on Saturday with a handwritten note from the secretary saying:
'Congratulations Rachel, as well as coming 3rd, you also had the most nominations for Good Horsemanship'
I also received a £7.50 voucher for Wylie Valley Equine.
Brilliant result Rachel!

Bluebell Ride May 12th 2012
After a very wet week I was very pleased to wake up last Saturday morning to bright sunshine as a group of us were heading off to West Woods for a ride through the woods.
Having all tacked up and being met by Elena and Liz who were leading our ride, we headed off up a muddy track but wow the mud was worth it as we rode into the sea of bluebells that carpeted the woods.
The woods were amazing and everyone including the horses remained relaxed although Tacye needed to get off as her young horse, who was behaving well despite this being only her second outing, had put her tongue over the bit. Remounted and about to head off she dropped her glove and had to get off again!
After walking and trotting through the woods we soon found ourselves back at the car pack where Henrietta was waiting with drinks, snacks and her now famous flapjack! We un-tacked the horses and they tucked into some grass whilst we attacked the flapjack.
A huge thank you to Elena and Liz for organising such a lovely ride. Having completed the ride on my new horse without wanting to get off I have decided Elena is ‘my new best friend’ as I am hoping to she will escort me on another ride in West Woods!!
Many thanks to all who came along for making our ride so enjoyable. Jo

Dressage Workshop with Rachel Hammond April 2012
Just a quick note to say thank you for organising a fun and informative event which was enjoyed by all.
As a non-member of Springline Riding Club I was made to feel very welcome on Saturday 21st April at the Practical Workshop "How to improve your dressage scores" with Rachel Hammond at the impressive JT Foundation Centre in Easterton.
We arrived at 10am and were paired up to act as 'Judge' and 'Writers' for the morning and moved to the gallery of the indoor school. Dressage Test sheets and information were handed out and Rachel explained what a judge looks for in all gaits, how to ride the test accurately for optimum marks and explained the marking system in detail, which was very useful and answered some of the questions as to why we received such marks on our dressage sheets in the past! In the back-ground our two demonstration horse and riders warmed up ready to be marked by nervous judges, wondering how we were going to watch, mark and talk to our writer all at the same time, needless to say we found this to be a difficult task to master.
After the first test we were very lucky and were able to sit outside in the 'sunshine' where we were treated to tea/coffee and delicious home made flapjacks. (thank you to Henrietta). As a group we talked through each section of the test and our marks and comments were reviewed against Rachel's, and in lots of cases our marks/comments were similar. 'Judges' and 'Writers' then swapped roles and we did the same for the second test, again with our new knowledge our marks and comments in most cases tied up with Rachel's.
To finish the morning, for those who wanted to have a test judged by Rachel had the opportunity to bring their horses with them, these were eagerly watched with our new found skills.
A very enjoyable morning, relaxed atmosphere, very informative, great value for money and an opportunity to meet and talk to Rachel and members of the club.
Thank you, and I shall be keeping an eye on your web page for more details on the next unmounted event, "How to Improve your Horse's Posture and Balance" clinic in June which has already caught my attention.

Winter Woollies Show - JRFS - April 2012
This was a very successful show with a good number of entries and plenty of positive comments from participants. The JR Foundation Station venue was excellent and even the weather was kind to us. Neal) would like to extend special thanks to Joanna Craig who made the venue so accessible for us, Rachel Hammond and Wendy Davies who erected and ran the Clear Round, Debbie Alden and Tessa Sawyer who judged and stewarded the Show, Jen Swift and Jane Sheppard who ran the refreshments stall, Penny Shearcroft for running the Handy Horse and Chris, Jo and Luke Bull for collecting, unloading and re-loading the jumps.

XC Training - Rabson Manor - March 2012
"Just a big thank you for a fabulous day at Rabson yesterday, and the weather was great too. Jane was very good and all the others in the lesson were so nice that Amber felt very happy to get stuck in annd have a go. A great step forward for her confidence. Really hope there are more xc lessons to come."

"I think I can safely say we all had a great Cross Country session with Jayne Wilson (yes those of us who are a similar vintage may remember she competed at Badminton back in the day).
For once the weather was on our side and the Rabson Manor jumps looked very inviting. As the first cross country paddock was still rather wet we were invited to warm up over the show jumps first before going to the second cross country field. This was something of a bonus as the Rabson show jumps are known for their extreme fillers!
First of all Jayne got us all warming up, trotting first and then cantering, looking at getting a nice rythm and pace going and making sure we had short reins and soft hands. Once warmed up Jayne then had us pop over a cross pole - concentrating on being straight and coming with sufficient impulsion - but not speed. She also corrected our posture so that we were asked to sit up and keep our hands down, but mainain a soft elbow and some of us, including me, jumped a small course as a warm up before going onto a slightly bigger course. All the horses and the pony! went well - and jumped everything - give or take one or two "looks".
We then moved off to the Cross Country and Jayne took the opportunity to get us up in our stirrups riding up and down a short hill between the fields, while keeping our balance. Once in the cross country field Jayne explained that she wanted us up in our stirrups and to only sit down about 3 strides out from the fence. We were given a course around 5 small cross country fences to tackle and all the horses and the pony went really well. We then moved up to some slightly more challenging fences and these fences caused a few stops - most of which were at one particular fence - not the biggest - but it obviously looked strange to the horses and we were encouraged to be more positive with our riding - kick! and use our voices if necessary!
We then set off for a further range of jumps including a bank complex a sunken road and the water. After a brilliant demonstration of how to ride positively through water from Jane on her lovely eventer - note to self do not drop the reins when you land in water,! we all tackled it and even my slightly reluctant horse was quickly jumping through confidently. Emma and Keira then went on to jump some of the bigger cross country fences to finish off the session.
Overall Jayne really got everyone jumping confidently and you could really see the difference in the horses. I was particularly pleased as my horse has not jumped anything resembling a formal course for about 6 months but I could really feel her improve throughout the session. Jayne was very patient and took her time
with us all and really got to grips with our individual issues. She was also very good with our youngest but most capable group member Giles - coaching him on how to deal with a bank that he was a little unsure of - but proving it was all quite straightforward. I think the talent of a good trainer shows when the things they ask you to do have an immediate effect on the horse - and Jayne could really spot what was needed for each of us.
If you've not been before Rabson Manor is a great venue - with a huge range of cross country fences, of all sizes - but plenty of small ones, and the aformentioned brightly coloured show jumps. Its easy to find being on the road just after Avebury and once you get there, there is a car park with a loo!
Huge thanks must go to Kath for organising this session which appeared to run like clockwork - just one request - please can you put another one on!"
